[brɔȖk], Detlev Wulf, amerikanischer Biophysiker und Physiologe, * New York 13. 8. 1897, ✝ ebenda 17. 11. 1975; Professor an der University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (1929-49), danach Präsident der Johns Hopkins University, 1953-68 der Rockefeller University in New York; außerdem 1950-62 Präsident der National Academy of Sciences; Arbeiten zur Infrarotspektroskopie sowie v. a. zur Physiologie der Sinnesorgane und des Nervensystems. Er entwickelte u. a. elektrische, optische und elektronenmikroskopische Methoden zur Messung der bei Reizübertragungen erfolgenden Veränderungen in den Nervenzellen, untersuchte ihre molekulare Struktur sowie die Art und die Verteilung der Ionen in ihnen.
